OVERCOMING IMPOSTER SYNDROME
Imposter syndrome affects us all, from new entrepreneurs to seasoned executives to those starting new employment. It’s the internal struggle that we have of feeling unqualified or doubting our accomplishments despite our successes up to that point.
In my newsletter this month, I have some practical ideas to overcome imposter syndrome and help you step up to being confident and capable.
*** When you feel imposter syndrome happening, acknowledge it. This is the first step to overcoming your self-doubt. Figuring what triggers your feelings. I know when I started my my virtual assisting, I felt this way.
I have been a very successful hairstylist for many years and to now take on a new role – – – and, …..this is where MY imposter syndrome came in. I felt that my life career, as a hairstylist, is who I am.
Now, I’m changing my life story and adding to it. I’m needing to acknowledge this new challenge and enjoy what lies ahead and realize this is my future chapter.
*** With recognizing it, I needed to shift my mindset from self-doubt into self-belief that I do deserve this change. I’ve worked hard and continue to work hard at it and through this. Making a list of my accomplishments helps me get through these doubts. Reviewing them regularly helps to enforce those positive thoughts.
*** Through all this, I have to celebrate my small wins. This, I find, doesn’t come easy for me, but for my mental success I do it. I have a daily tracker of wins that I can look back on to use these as milestones to reflect how far I really have come. It’s really quite impressive when you’re able to reflect on that……Keep up the good work!! (Pat on the back 🙂 )
*** Another thing that’s hard to not do, and that’s comparing yourself to others. Doing this brings you to having feelings of inadequacy. Something I do to help me through this, because let’s face it, we all do this, is to celebrate and recognize others’ achievements. Reach out to them and recognize they had challenges as we do and carry on with your own achievements no matter how small they might seem. Celebrate your wins, too!!
Remember to celebrate your progress and embrace your achievements. Your growth will happen outside your comfort zone, you just need to believe in yourself!!
We are all capable of reaching our goals!
